DONAC 2012

E-mail Print PDF

The Dutch Open National Aerobatic Championship started on Friday afternoon of the 31st of August with a strong northerly wind with gusts of more than 20 knots. This combined with a much stronger wind in the aerobatic box made it clear that we would not fly right away. The remaining time after the briefing was used for the selection of the unknown sequence for Advanced. In line with the procedure of international championships each advanced pilot could select one figure for each sequence.Flightline

In the meantime the wind died down a bit and hope was rising that we could fly before sunset. After a couple of weather briefings it was decided at 19:00 that the expected decrease in wind would not arrive in time. Because of the forecast for Sunday it was decided to skip the advanced known sequence to increase the chance that both unknown sequence could be flown. The day ended without any flights but with some unknown sequences and a diner at Flantua's restaurant.

Pitts Special S-2B OO-SMD

The weather didn't start too good on friday and the judges were doing some pretty good training on building up their positions and packing the stuff back in the cars. But around five o'clock it was possible to fly the free program for advanced and the known sequences for the Yak and Intermediate. The Sukhoi Su-26m G-XXVI of Nick Onn landed at Leystad airport on it's way to the EAC 2010 in Touzim (Czech).

Sukhoi Su-26m G-XXVIWeather looked promising on saturday and because it was expected to be the best day for the competition the program was started as quickly as possible. Hendrik-Jan switched to the Pitts S-1T because of technical problems with the Cap 21. Although Hendrik-Jan had flown the Pitts before this was still the first time with the single seat Pitts S-1T. The weather changed but it was possible for the Sportsman and beginners to fly their known sequences and later that day the unkown for Advanced and Intermediate. It was decided to have the briefing early on sunday so we could start as soon as possible. Nick Onn had some problems with a compressor on his Sukhoi 26M which he managed to fix on sunday.
